How to Use Cheats and Console Commands in Age of Empires IV

In Age of Empires IV, cheats can currently be used in 3 different game modes:

Campaigns | Custom Games | Skirmishes

Keep in mind that not every cheat works in every game mode. Below you’ll see exactly where each code can be used.

How to Enable Cheats

Before Starting the Match

To use cheats, you first need to enable the cheats option in the game settings before launching a match, as shown in the images below:

Entering Cheat Codes

During the match:

Press the ENTER key to open the chat window.
Type the cheat code you want to use.
Press ENTER again. The cheat will activate instantly.

On Xbox, open the chat through the Pause Menu and enter the codes the same way.

Before using cheats, there are a few important things you should know:

Cheat codes are not case-sensitive.
Unit-spawning cheats create units from your Town Center, so they won’t work if you don’t currently have one.
Using cheats disables achievements and masteries for that match.

Resource Cheats

I have an app idea: Instantly maxes out your Gold.
Full meal deal: Instantly maxes out your Food.
Knock on wood: Instantly maxes out your Wood.
Take it for granite: Instantly maxes out your Stone.
Smorgasbord: Instantly maxes out all resources.

Map Cheats

ℹ️ These cheats only work in Custom Games.

It was known: Removes the Fog of War.
It is known: Fully reveals the map.

Unit and Building Cheats

Photon man (Custom Games and Skirmishes): Spawns a Photon Man, the iconic laser-shooting astronaut unit from classic Age of Empires cheat codes.
At the core (Custom Games): Spawns one unit of every available type for your civilization (excluding cheat-exclusive units).

It would be surprising if more unit cheats aren’t added in future updates. Fans are still waiting for the classic overpowered vehicles and bizarre hidden units seen in previous AOE games.

One of us (Custom Games): Converts selected enemy units to your side instantly, similar to a Monk conversion.
Make it quick (Custom Games): Deletes selected units or buildings instantly.
Anti-poke (Custom Games): Makes your units and buildings invulnerable.
Zeleport (Custom Games): Teleports selected units anywhere on the map. One of the most useful and creative cheats in AOE IV.
You monster (Custom Games): Removes Gaia from the map, meaning all wildlife disappears.
Big bad sheep (Campaigns and Custom Games): Turns every sheep on the map into wolves.
This is fine (Custom Games): Sets selected buildings on fire.

General Cheats

Inna jiffy (Custom Games and Skirmishes): Enables instant construction, unit training, and research.
King size beds (Campaigns and Custom Games): Sets your population cap to the maximum.
Age me up scotty (Custom Games): Instantly advances you to the next Age.
Another cup (Campaigns): Speeds up the game.
Another Round (Campaigns): Slows down the game speed.
I give up (Campaigns and Custom Games): Immediately resigns the match.
Minimally minimal (Campaigns and Custom Games): Toggles the game UI on and off.
Out with the new (Campaigns and Custom Games): Replaces the under attack alert sound with the classic Age of Empires II notification sound — a nostalgic favorite for veteran players.
